The area off the Lorimer stop has never been as coffee congested as Bedford Avenue, but that’s starting to change. In the former home of Tedone Latticini Dairy Products on Metropolitan Avenue, Black Star is now offering pastries and sandwiches made in-house, and of course COFFEE!

The coffee is from Oslo Coffee Roasters, and the espresso is Moak. You can sip it with vanilla macaroons or a banana and Nutella croissant.

Owner Dan Magor said he felt the neighborhood could use another coffee shop: “It needs one like that, one that’s young and selling something different.”

By “something different,” he probably meant breakfast options like the sriracha omelette sandwich (organic eggs, sriracha mayo, tomatoes and gruyere on toasted brioche), and lunchtime favorites like an Italian salami baguette with homemade pesto, salami, manchego, roasted peppers, tomatoes and arugula. Sandwich prices fall between $5 and $8.

The shop’s interior is crisp and clean, and the wooden tables and chairs and free WiFi give it a comfy, inviting vibe.
