It’s late in the season and you’ve run through all the vendors at Smorgasburg, so where to graze next? Fill up and get down at these upcoming Lower East Side food fests.
Grub Street Food Festival
Oct. 5, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hester Street Fair, Hester St. and Essex St. and adjacent tennis courts.
This annual feeding frenzy will bring over 75 vendors chosen by our colleagues over at Grub Street. We’re probs most excited for Meat Hook Sandwiches, El Quinto Pinto, Roberta’s, AsiaDog, BrisketTown, Patacon Pisao and the pumpkin doughnuts from Doughnut Plant. But the dark horse might just be Mook’s and its Mexican fried-rice sushi with ingredients like miso beef and cotija cheese. In addition to Vendy-winning vendors and so, so many Cheap Eats picks, there’ll be a beer garden offering $5 brews, DJs from Stanley’s Pharmacy, and a food-themed 9-hole mini golf course. Find the whole lineup here.
Lower East Side Pickle Day
Oct. 19th from noon to 5 p.m. on Orchard Street bet. Houston and Delancey Streets
The press release for this “kind of a big dill” event is packed with so many pickle puns that we’re just going to go ahead and quote from it: “Relish in the thought of three blocks full of 15+ picklers, 30+ LES food & fashion vendors, a home pickling contest, games, activities, face painting, DJ lessons, and alas, will there be pickle on a stick? CorniSHO NUFF! … Pickle Day has been barreling through the LES for 10+ years and is designed to combine this dillicious neighborhood tradition with a fine variety of local, homegrown vendors. Foodies will be able to pick from a jarring selection of restaurants, including Spur Tree, Russ & Daughters Cafe and Khao Man Gai, many of which will be creating specialty, pickle-themed menus.” Find the whole list here.
And stay tuned: The Bedford + Bowery Bazaar will once again bring North Brooklyn grub — and a whole lot more — to the Hester Street Fair on Saturday, Oct. 25.
