The video above shows a man just after he mugged a woman at knifepoint in the East Village, police say.
The incident happened around 5 a.m. on Monday, when a man approached a 35-year-old woman from behind as she walked past 405 East 6th Street, near First Avenue. The victim dropped her purse and took off after the man flashed a knife and demanded her property.
Police say the video shows the suspect scooping up her valuables, which amounted to $300 and an iPhone.
According to the most recently posted crime data, robberies in the Ninth Precinct were up about 30 percent during the week of Aug. 18 and during the prior month, compared to the same week and month last year. Year-to-date, they had decreased by about 17 percent compared to the same period last year.
