The new Japanese restaurant in the former Sapporo East space will “hopefully” be open in two weeks to a month, owner Panya Ongkeo tells Bedford + Bowery.
Earlier today we stopped by the corner of First Avenue and East 10th Street, where Sapporo East suddenly closed in January. Though the interior of Beronberon, as the new restaurant will be called, is little more than a cloud of sawdust, the facade looks to be near completion.
Back in May, we noted on Twitter that Chico’s “Love Mother Earth” mural had fallen victim to the new establishment.
According to Community Board 3 documents, Yuji Umeki (of nearby Saint Marks Japanese fun zone, Kenka) is also co-owner of Beronberon. No word on whether turkey testicles will be served here, too.
