Williamsburg doesn’t exactly have an overabundance of bike-share stations (according to Citi Bike’s map, it has 9 to the East Village’s 24), so it was a bummer when two of them suddenly disappeared. A couple of weekends ago, all of the neighborhood’s docks were full and the Metropolitan Avenue station was backed up with exasperated riders waiting for bikes to be checked out so they could return theirs.
According to Citi Bike’s director of marketing, Dani Simons, the station at Grand Street, near Havemeyer, was out of commission due to a private construction project. But good news! It should be reactivated before the end of the day today.
As of 4 p.m., the station still looked like it does in the above photo. But Simons assures us it’ll be “tested and ready to go live” within the next half hour. “We’re going to let commuters bring in the bikes, since the Williamsburg stations tend to fill up quickly during evening rush,” she said.
But another station remains inactive. “I do not have an ETA for re-installing Kent & S. 11th Street yet,” Simons said. Which leaves us feeling kinda blue.
