The man in the video above broke into an East Village church this past Sunday and absconded with $11,000 cash, police say.

The suspect walked into Immaculate Conception Church shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday and took the cash from a bedroom in the rectory, according to authorities. “The police are confident he will be found,” Reverend Kevin Nelan told B+B.

Nelan said a chaplain living at the church, at 414 East 14th Street, was in possession of the large sum because it had been collected by a bishop from Nigeria, who was due to arrive in New York City after the weekend. Without the bishop present, Nelan explained, the chaplain was unable to deposit the cash at the bank on Friday.

“It’s unfortunate,” Nelan said of the burglary. “But it’s fortunate that we have the criminal on camera.” The reverend said the church had recently installed “very good cameras” that helped capture a clear image of the suspect.
