If you’re looking for cheap housewares, today’s your day: everything is 50 percent off at Surprise! Surprise!, which will close at the end of this month after two decades in business. The store is looking pretty stripped-down (the basement has already closed) but there’s still tons of furniture, shower curtains, kitchen supplies, bamboo shades, lamps, you name it. A manager says the half-off discount is probably as low as they’ll go, and the rest will be donated to charity.
Meanwhile, a couple of blocks away on Third Avenue, Biomed Drugs & Surgical Supply is also closing and offering nearly everything at a 50 percent discount. So if you’re in the market for a wheelchair, vitamins, kitchen supplies, laundry detergent, an electronic toothbrush, don’t go to the Duane Reade that’s a block away. A manager at the store said they’ve been open 19 years and are now operating on a day-by-day basis; they could close tomorrow if the landlord decides to drop the hammer.
