Welcome to Girls Talk, in which two of our favorite New Yorkers share the text messages they sent during this week’s episode of Girls.
The text in gray belongs to Sam Grittner, a stand-up comedian and writer currently residing in Bed-Stuy. He created and writes @TonightonGirls and performs Tuesday nights at the free Manifesto! show at the People’s Republic of Brooklyn in Carroll Gardens.
The text in blue belongs to fellow stand-up comedian Abbi Crutchfield, who appears in lots of commercials and lives in Park Slope when not touring across the country.
Episode 8: “Incidentals”
Hannah gets stood up for a GQ interview by Broadway star Patti LuPone, and Adam gets cast in a Broadway play.
At a recording studio, LuPone warns Hannah about the terrors Broadway brings to a relationship, such as groupies. Hannah dismisses this, explaining that Adam’s “so funny-looking,” to which LuPone replies, “The elephant man got laid a lot.”
Downtown, at 16 Handles, Marnie runs into an old friend, Soojin, who is opening her own gallery. In Manhattan.
Hannah receives a surprisingly generous first paycheck from GQ, and Jesse receives a visit from Jasper, a gentleman ghost of rehab past.
GQ is putting Hannah up for a night at the Gramercy Park Hotel, and so Hannah invites her crew over to congratulate Adam. Marnie brings a pizza and a scowl; she’s been “dumped” by Ray, who wants a serious relationship.
Adam arrives with his new co-star, Desi, who has a sing-along with Marnie.
Coked-out Jessa and Jasper make a brief appearance before scampering back to the children’s clothing store to steal money for more drugs. Hannah and Adam take a fancy bath.
Check back next Monday when we’ll have show critiques from two new Girls Talkers!
