Don’t say the Greenpoint Chamber of Commerce never did anything for ya: along with Planetbklyn and the East River Ferry, they’re putting on this day-into-night outdoor hootinany featuring bands and DJs like rootsy rock outfit J Roddy Walston and The Business, Strong Island hip-hop/reggae/rock group The Warden and FAME, alt metal group EYE RA HAZE, reggae outfit Soul Junkies, and more.
Nuyorican Poets Cafe 40th Anniversary Block Party
Saturday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on East 3rd St. bet. Avenues B & C, East Village
The Nuyo is kicking off its 40th anniversary season (that’s right: 40 years and they still got it!) with an afternoon of outdoor performances by the Latin Jazz All-Stars; poets Mahogany Browne, Advocate of Wordz, Kayo and Eboni Hogan; and hip-hop artists Papi Shank and Chris Rivers (aka Baby Pun). For los nietos, there’s carnival games and a bounce castle.
9th Street A-1 Block Association Block Party
Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on E. 9th St. bet. E. 1st St. and Avenue A
If you missed the annual 10th Street Garage Sale the other weekend, here’s another chance to do some outdoor shopping on the streets of the East Village. There’ll be goods from the block’s Wiccan wonderland and other shops, plus bites from restaurants Whitman’s and Dirt Candy, and a performance by Bluesco band (so look for Ron’s RV parked nearby).
