Beloved Jackson Heights restaurant Tacos Morelos — which has a pushcart near Avenue A and taco trucks in Wall Street and Williamsburg — is finally getting a permanent location in the East Village. The restaurant opens to the public tomorrow, on East 9th Street, near Avenue A.
“A lot of people were asking why don’t we open a place in the city because it’s too hard to come to Jackson Heights,” explained owner Maximo Ochoa. Among many others, Aziz Ansari is a fan.
Ochoa told us that the menu would be almost the same as the other locations, with options to take out or sit down. However, he explained that only “very few people” will be able to fit in the small space that briefly held Empanadas Bar — so if you were planning to host your birthday party at Tacos Morelos, you’ll probably still have to trek out to Queens. Or maybe settle for one of the East Village’s other new taquerias.
