The much anticipated BK Bazaar (formerly Williamsburg’s Brooklyn Night Bazaar) is beefing up its staff in preparation for its opening in the Polonaise building in Greenpoint. In addition to the staff needed to run events—like their stacked opening weekend, featuring Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah and Pissed Jeans on September 9 and 10, respectively—they also need people to staff the “bazaar” part of the venue, which includes a restaurant, arcade and, of course, karaoke rooms. As Greenpointers reported earlier today, that means they’re looking for, among other things, a karaoke manager. I, John Ambrosio, believe I should be that karaoke manager.
Sometimes it can get a little old going to the same bars, galleries, shows, knowing the kind of stuff you’ll see there. So, shake it up with…
A live band at karaoke:
Saturday, July 30 at Cake Shop, 152 Ludlow Street, Lower East Side. Doors at 8pm, music at 9pm. $10. More info here.
Karaoke is always a fun choice (I’m aware many would disagree) but karaoke backing tracks can often be in weird keys and sound like an early 2000s MIDI version of the song you actually wanted to sing. That’s all about to change with Be Yourself Karaoke, a live band that specifically plays ’90s/early 2000s emo and pop-punk songs with audience members as the lead singer. The setlist of songs to choose from is much less overwhelming than those huge karaoke binders and includes hits from Yellowcard, Fall Out Boy, Say Anything, Good Charlotte, and more. Yes, that means you too can relive that dream of bopping around your bedroom yelling to MCR while wearing too much eyeliner, only this time you’ll have a microphone and a stage.
THURSDAY, OCT. 29
Pat O Ween
Union Pool, 484 Union Ave, Williamsburg, 10pm
Here comes Pat! A lot of them, actually. Attendees are to dress as their favorite pat, whether it’s Pat Sajak or Patti Smith. The pat-sibilities are endless. Union Pool has the music down pat, as well: B+B favorite and DFA artist Lauren Flax of CREEP will be DJing with JD Samson of MEN and Le Tigre, Andy Pry of Tiki Disco, and Amber Valentine.
When you get on stage with the Arlene’s World Famous Live Rock and Roll Karaoke Band, you know they’ve got your back — they’ve gotten drop-ins from Sebastian Bach, Adrian Grenier, Jim Carrey (who did Radiohead’s “Creep”), and they regularly perform at SNL after-parties. These guys might just know the solos to some GNR songs better than Slash.
