Our friends at the Hester Street Fair kept busy over the winter with a Katz’s-themed pop-up in Miami and a new Project Space on Henry Street, but with the weather finally warming, it’s (almost, almost) time for the main event. Hester just posted the calendar for its eighth season, which starts April 15, and it looks like there’s some fun in store.
Once again, the flea and food market will take over a chunk of Seward Park every Saturday, though there’ll also be some special Sunday events, including a Wellness Day, a community yard sale where local residents will hawk their wares, a casual art fair, an appearance by upstate’s Basilica Farm & Flea, and a “Girl Power” day that will likely feature the Lower Eastside Girls Club and the like. Don’t worry, bros, there’s also a Dude’s Day that may well give Greenpoint’s forthcoming “men’s style market” a run for its money. On Saturdays, there’ll be ice cream and cold brew competitions, as well as days dedicated to lobster and otaku culture. And it looks like there’ll be a day dedicated to the growing New York-Detroit crossover. Peep the whole calendar here.
For its eighth season, Hester is also showcasing businesses that started at the fair, including Macaron Parlour, Melt Bakery, Osaka Grub, Peetee’s Pie Co, La Newyorkina, and Arancini Bros. So who’ll be the next breakouts? We’ll share this season’s lineup when it’s released.
