Didn’t wake up at 1 a.m. to get a spot in line to see Vampire Weekend serenade Bernie Sanders at Washington Square Park this afternoon? There’s still plenty of Bernie love to go around the city ahead of the primary next Tuesday.

We just spied an outpouring of Bernie street art going up at Rivington and Ludlow, on top of the deceased Galli restaurant. Move over skeletal-Karl Lagerfeld— artists like Hektad, Lola Jiblazee, Adam Dare and ClockWork Cros are busy throwing up their own homages to Bernie as we speak, including a giant portrait of the Bern with a Bowie lightening bolt across his face. Aladdin Sanders? It’s enough to upstage the Bernie gallery show coming to the Bowery this weekend.

ClockWork Cros was pasting an image of Sanders getting arrested at Chicago University during the civil rights era. “Putting it out here like this, you can kind of see Bernie represents this ideal his whole life,” he said.

In order to get it to stick on the gate, he used a new technique. “I cut individual strips to go in each piece of gate,” he said. “It’s like a wheat paste, but the gate can actually go up without the wheat paste breaking apart.”

Word on the street, seems like the LES Dwellers are involved in organizing this. We’ll update if confirmed.
