Here's Where LES and Brooklyn Will Be During Art Basel and Miami Art Week 2015

It’s once again Miami Art Week, that rare time when you can escape the city without the slightest bit of FOMO. Because, after all, pretty much every Lower East Side gallery (and some North Brooklyn ones, too) will be posting up and partying down. Survey this year’s rundown of where to find NYC in the MIA, below, and you’ll notice some interesting developments: Williamsburg venue Baby’s All Right is flying down and popping up, Ridgewood venue Trans-Pecos is curating a poolside series, and there are a couple of whole new fairs this year, X Contemporary and Satellite, from co-founders of the now defunct Select fair. That’s just the start of it, so read on. We’ll be adding to this list as more intel pours in.

Fridge Art Fair

Dec. 3 to Dec. 6 at Holiday Inn Miami Beach, 4333 Collins Ave.; open Thursday from 4pm to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 11am to 9pm, and Sunday from 11am to 7pm; $10 suggested donation. 
This quirky alt fair, born in the Lower East Side, is kind of all over the map, but we do know that founder Eric Ginsburg will paint a portrait of your pet and give the proceeds to Williamsburg’s BARC Shelter. Exhibitors include LES galleries onetwentyeight and Van Der Plas. The folks at Centre-Fuge, who are responsible for art walls in the East Village and Greenpoint, will also be gussying up Churchill’s Pub during the kick-off party on Dec. 2.

X Contemporary Art Fair

The Surf Lodge Art Basel

The “official art gallery of Satan” recently relocated from the Lower East Side to Los Angeles, but New Yorkers can catch up with JJ Brine at this “intra-dimensional office space” for the Satanic Suicide Hotline. Among those performing is NYC-based Lena Marquise, who vaginally charged Usher’s phone at last year’s Art Week.
Trans-Pecos DJ set

Todd Patrick’s Ridgewood avant-garde venue, Trans-Pecos, is curating the Satellite​ Music Program at the Deauville Hotel. Start your Wednesday night with this chill sesh by the pool.
Baby’s All Right Miami

Is this SXSW or Art Basel? Whatever! After celebrating its second anniversary and launching a new menu, Williamsburg insta-institution BB’s OK gets some much deserved fun in the sun via this pop-up featuring acts like Sporting Life, Juliana Huxtable, Jacuzzi Boys, Empress Of, Prince Rama and more. Plus, installations and music in the courtyard from 8 Ball magazine, Baby’s East Village sister spot Elvis Guesthouse and more. This is the fallback option all week long.
Art Basel: Public Opening Night

During this evening of parkside performance, LES gallery 47 Canal will present Xavier Cha’s supreme ultimate exercise (consisting of a tai chi performance and a “tractor-tire routine”) while its neighbor, Lisson, will Ryan Gander’s Earnest Hawker, playing on the type who “attends gallery events for all the right and wrong reasons.”

James Chance, a veteran of the downtown No Wave scene, will share a bill with Diamond Terrifier, the alterego of free-jazz musician and Trans-Pecos tastemaker Sam Hillmer. Also jumping in is Don Devore of Sick Feeling and Collapsing Scenery.
Le Baron Pop-Up

If you’re absolutely determined to hate yourself, try getting past the rope at the Chinatown spot’s South Beach pop-up. Just know that “I know André from Paris” ain’t gonna cut it.
Jennifer Rubell’s “Devotion”
Dec. 3, 9am to 11am, at Rubell Family Collection, 95 NW 29 St.
This NYC-based artist, repped by LES gallery Sargent’s Daughters, once again presents her annual “breakfast performance” at her family’s contemporary art space (fun fact: she’s related to Steve Rubell of Studio 54 and Darin Rubell of Drexler’s, Boulton & Watt, and Forrest Point). Her pointed use of “bread, butter, and a couple engaged to be married” will serve as the kick-off for “No Man’s Land,” an exhibit dedicated to female artists such as Cindy Sherman, Lorna Simpson, Kara Walker and dozens of others.
Nari Ward Book Signing

The New York artist, repped by LES/Chelsea gallery Lehmann Maupin, will sign copies of the catalog for his exhibit, Nari Ward: Sun Splashed, currently on display at PAMM.
Casey Spooner book signing

Casey Spooner of cult electro act Fischerspooner is the subject of a new book, Egos, featuring photographs that Yuki James took of him in his Williamsburg apartment as he prepped for a new album. Over 20 other photographers also documented Spooner as he shed his electroclash persona for something a little more rugged.

“Dimensions” by Devonté Hynes and Ryan McNamara
Dec. 3, 9pm to midnight, Pérez Art Museum Miami
A year after his mind-bending collaboration with Matthew Stone, East Village-based maestro Dev Hynes, aka Blood Orange, is teaming up with Brooklyn-based artist Ryan McNamara. This time, the performance is at the behest of PAMM, which invited the two to participate in its Researcher-in-Residence program. The performance on the museum’s terrace will include an “original multi-part composition” by Hynes and “sculptural elements and choreography” by McNamara, merging into an “allegory of Miami’s history as a place of fantasy and fragmentation.” Hynes calls it a “dance/opera/rnb 2 hour event.”
Nadawave

Lower East Side-based Common Space puts together this yearly party. This year’s installment is sure to lure downtown dancehounds via performances by Juceboxxx, Sporting Life, Malcolm Mooney (on Dec. 3) and Sadaf, Jon Santos, and Juliana Huxtable (on Dec. 4). The Dec. 3 party will feature a 9pm screening of LA-based artist Casey Jane Ellison’s intriguingly titled film, Personal Trimmer Internal Promo.
Non Grata and WildTorus Performance
Dec. 3, 7pm to 9pm at The Pharmacy, 7430 Collins Avenue; entry requires Miami Project & Art on Paper or SATELLITE pass. 
This one is an absolute don’t miss. The psychedelic, orgiastic rituals of Bushwick’s wildest art collective, Wild Torus, are sure to get even more warped under the Miami sun. Just as they did in Greenpoint last month, they’ll share a bill with another out-there performance art outfit, Estonian-based Non Grata.
Zister!
Dec. 3, 10pm to 5am at Kill Your Idol, 222 Espanola Way
Downtown performance artist, provocateur, and future feminist Narcissister will perform at this party, featuring DJ sets from fellow firebrands Juliana Huxtable, Venus X of GHE20G0TH1K, Shyboi and Sadaf.
Tumblr’s 4th Annual Basel Brunch honoring Dustin Yellin
Dec. 4, noon to 2pm, The Standard Spa, 40 Island Ave.; by invitation only. 
This invite-only affair at The Standard East Village’s groovy sister spot will honor Dustin Yellin, the Brooklyn-based glass master who founded Pioneer Works in Red Hook.
Hard 2 Leave with A-Trak
