The future has only just begun at The Hole. Through Sept. 27, the contemporary art gallery on Bowery will host Future Feminism, an exhibition featuring nightly performances and lectures led by some seriously influential artists and feminists. Marina Abramović, Narcissister, Anne Waldman, Bianca and Sierra Casady of CocoRosie, and the East Village’s own Kembra Pfahler are just a few of the performers hosting 13 nights of events.

The exhibition, which opened last night, is the result of collaboration between five artists including Kembra Pfahler (no stranger to The Hole), Johanna Constantine (dancer and performance artist), Antony (musician and conceptual artist), and the Casady sisters. The artists proclaim themselves to be to be a part of a new wave of feminism — Future Feminism — that stresses the connection between the subjugation of women and other problems facing all humans.

Each night, performances will seek to “activate” one of Future Feminism’s 13 tenets, inscribed on stone tablets. The first tenet, featured last night, pummels a ton of birds with just one stone: “the subjugation of women and earth is one in the same.”
