Furry! / La Furia!
Continues through November 26 at The Bushwick Starr, 8 pm (November 20 show at 3 pm): $15.

Imagining the everyday life of someone who dresses up as Elmo and roams around Times Square for tips is entertaining enough, but now you have a chance to see it on stage, in two different languages. Playwright William Burke has teamed up with Modesto Flako Jimenez and the Brooklyn Gypsies Collective for a “Spanish/Spanglish/human” translation of his play FURRY to be performed by Jimenez and Olander “Big O” Wilson. Also, this play isn’t even about the regular life of an Elmo in Times Square, however odd and intriguing that may be. It’s about “a street Elmo who rises to power by taking over the streets of 42nd to 46th Street by using The Art of War.” I don’t think I could imagine the details of such a thing if I tried, so you’re better off checking it out for yourself. Kembra Pfahler Launches a Voluptuous Weekly Party at Berlin Tonight

Kembra Pfahler’s archive was recently acquired by NYU, but that doesn’t mean the East Village firebrand is gathering dust in the halls of history. Tonight, the performance artist, future feminist, and frontwoman of shock-jock outfit The Vulptuous Horror of Karen Black will launch a weekly party at Jesse Malin’s subterranean hotspot, Berlin.

One of Williamsburg’s wildest bars has reopened in Greenpoint, bringing a party-prone ex-Lower East Side gallery with it.

Tender Trap was described as one of the “50 Coolest Places in New York” before it abruptly closed after just two years in November of 2013, and Superchief was part of the “#1 Art Bar in America” when it was forced to leave its Clinton Street perch inside of CultureFix back in July. Now the two exiles are dream-teaming up in the former home of rock bar Coco 66, which itself closed rather abruptly.

The future has only just begun at The Hole. Through Sept. 27, the contemporary art gallery on Bowery will host Future Feminism, an exhibition featuring nightly performances and lectures led by some seriously influential artists and feminists. Marina Abramović, Narcissister, Anne Waldman, Bianca and Sierra Casady of CocoRosie, and the East Village’s own Kembra Pfahler are just a few of the performers hosting 13 nights of events.

Looking Back at the First Tompkins Riot Reunion, on the Eve of the 26th

Screen Shot 2014-07-31 at 11.49.21 AMIt’s going to be a throwback weekend off of Tompkins Square Park. Not only is Clayton Patterson holding court Friday at Pyramid Club, but on Saturday and Sunday, the annual concerts commemorating the Tompkins Square Park Riot — which he so famously documented — return to the park.

In addition to performances by hippie holdover David “The Pope Smokes Dope” Peel and the usual array of hardcore/punk bands with names like Nihilistics and Transgendered Jesus (no Porno Dracula this year?), parkgoers will be treated to a free installment of The Voluptuous Horror of Karen Black, courtesy of the East Village’s own Kembra Pfahler.
