It’s late September, which, counterintuitively, means it’s time for Oktoberfest! Here are some great places to don your lederhosen, slug a gallon of lager, and sing along with traditional German drinking songs (or just make rhythmic guttural noises and act like you know the words).
The proprietor of Zum Schneider will be sporting a new look when Karneval festivities kick off tonight. As you can see from the photo at left, Sylvester Schneider has dyed his hair to resemble a soccer ball.
This year the Avenue C beer hall is merging Karneval, known as Fasching in Germany, with the upcoming World Cup. Partygoers are encouraged to dress up in outfits representing their country of choice, team up, and join restaurant staffers outfitted by Angela Wendt (award-winning costume designer for Rent) as they sing and dance to the music of Benjamin Ickies, Ambitious Orchestra, Oh!
