Here’s Who Turned Up at 16 New Year’s Eve Parties in Brooklyn
Sure, we’re well into January, but we’re only just now recovering from our post-New Year’s Eve haze and putting together the pieces of the night. Personally, I put my faith in the You Are So Lucky masquerade ball, put on by some of the wild-eyed dreamers from The Danger (RIP) and JunXion. They bused attendees to a secret location that ended up being a former copper baron’s 72-room, 22-acre estate, and it was pretty amazing, as Instagram photos attest. The only downside was that it was all the way out in Yonkers. Luckily, photographer Nick McManus was back in Brooklyn to document the festivities there. From sundown to sunrise, he hit no less than 16 parties and shared with us his group portraits from each. Click through the slideshow to see who turned up.

We’re guessing the world would look a whole lot different if bad ass women like Penelope Gazin had been well-represented in animation and comics from the start. But Gazin has her hand in so many projects, it’s almost as if she’s single-handedly trying to make up for lost time. Her paintings, drawings, and animations have a unique staying power, and will almost certainly end up plastered all over the walls of your skull if you spend some time with them. Gazin’s sassy, hilarious, and sometimes twisted images of alien babes and monster princesses don’t depart amicably.

It’s finally almost here, New York’s Alright 2015! Get excited for this year’s all things punk fest where tons of related official and unofficial happenings are being held in and around Bushwick, Greenpoint, East Williamsburg, and the Lower East Side. And you can stop screaming now, this isn’t a festival in any traditional / horrendous sense of the word, meaning you can put all your eggs in a basket marked “no” as in no you aren’t going to find anyone looking “Coachella as fuck” at this event. Or maybe you will. I haven’t turned on any TVs in a while so there’s a distinct possibility I’ve just been asleep at the wheel and Coachella hats are the new normcore. Well, normcore be damned — it’s time to break out your spikes, boys and girls (but only if you like saxophones).

Williamsburg’s Tender Trap Reopens in Greenpoint With an LES Gallery in Tow

One of Williamsburg’s wildest bars has reopened in Greenpoint, bringing a party-prone ex-Lower East Side gallery with it.
Tender Trap was described as one of the “50 Coolest Places in New York” before it abruptly closed after just two years in November of 2013, and Superchief was part of the “#1 Art Bar in America” when it was forced to leave its Clinton Street perch inside of CultureFix back in July. Now the two exiles are dream-teaming up in the former home of rock bar Coco 66, which itself closed rather abruptly.
