Taggers wasted no time marking up the Bowery wall’s newest mural.
The wall, on Houston Street and Bowery, has featured work by artists like Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf in the past and is now host to David Choe’s mural, completed last week.

Prepare to witness the unholy union of street art and a multimillion dollar restaurant brand. Tomorrow night Vandal, a concoction from The Tao Group, will make its debut at 199 Bowery with the help of street artists from around the world.

Beginning today and running through October 10, the One Art Space gallery in Tribeca will be holding an exhibit titled Attack the Block – “a concise survey of contemporary street art in America.” With many of the featured artists having already had their work exhibited in museums and galleries like MoMA, the Whitney and the Brooklyn Museum, the show is what Daniel Giella, owner of One Art Space, describes as an “all-star game” of the street art world. But is the show also an oxymoron?
While Bushwick Collective has been hogging all the attention lately (even from local cops), a series of equally impressive murals have been going up these past few weeks in Coney Island, where the New York art world’s prodigal son Jeffrey Deitch has called on some big names to paint a couple dozen walls dotting a concrete lot shared with Coney Smorgasburg.

The week didn’t start out great for Wayne Rada and the L.I.S.A. Project, his non-profit outfit that has brought a ton of world-class street art to Little Italy (of all places) and beyond over the past couple of years. Shepard Fairey, Conor Harrington, Queen Andrea, Lister, Crash and Daze, Stikman, Michael de Feo (aka The Flower Guy), Tristan Eaton… the list of L.I.S.A.-backed artists is long.

On Wednesday, Fuse Gallery held its last regular opening after 11 years as a hub of downtown cool and creativity. Guests like Lower East Side graphic designer Kenzo Minami and Lobster Joint owner Tommy Chabrowski gathered in the little room behind Lit Lounge to play with Aliya Naumoff’s photos of musicians who, in some cases, have shown at Fuse Gallery themselves (e.g. Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha).
