As the cliché goes, a talented artist can make their work look easy. Most successful works of art, then– anything from albums to paintings and photographs–  belie the huge amount of effort and skill that went into their creation. This might stem from the idea that showing too much of the maker’s hand demystifies the process, and therefore risks ruining the magic of art. That distance is especially important when it comes to music– for most genres anyway, maintaining a separation between the audience and the performer, both physical and psychologically, is an essential part of the experience.

For several hours last night, New York-based singer/songwriter Tiger Darrow, covered in a thick layer of latex, sat statuesque in an inflatable splash pool placed atop a mechanically rotating chair. Why? Some might call it madness, others a vision. “You look like a cross between the robot in Ex Machina and something out of a Guillermo Del Toro movie,” said director Mike Donaghey.

It turns out Lane Moore isn’t just the host of comedy show Tinder LIVE! and the sex and relationships editor at Cosmopolitan.com — she’s also been a songwriter and musician since she was well under five feet tall. In 2009 (when she was a bit taller), she came up with the band name It Was Romance and then went on a hunt for the perfect bandmates. Together they’ve been creating music that Lane describes as “the Black Keys meets Fiona Apple meets 1960s girl groups, with some Yeah Yeah Yeahs in there.” If you’re curious to hear what that sounds like, check out the new video for the song “Philadelphia,” off the band’s self-titled debut album.

Is Marnie Michaels embracing her unsolicited Internet fame? Tonight at 6 p.m. Girls star Allison Williams will be at Soho’s Apple Store to promote season three. On everyone’s mind: Marnie’s music video, which debuted in Sunday’s episode. If we know Marnie Marie Michaels, she’ll be giving some sort of small-scale TED Talk. A title has not been announced, but we took a few guesses.
