Tribeca Launches a TV Festival With Louis C.K., Amy Sedaris and a Will & Grace Reunion

The people who used to brag about not owning a TV set are the same ones who now complain that there are too many shows– or so it was observed on a recent episode of Difficult People. Obviously, orange is the new black and the small screen is the new big screen, but up until a few years ago, New York City didn’t have a festival dedicated to what used to be called the idiot box. That changed in 2013, when we finally got a version of Los Angeles’s PaleyFest. That returns next month with some free screenings of shows like The Mindy Project and Fuller House. And now the folks behind the Tribeca Film Festival have announced a Tribeca TV Festival, also coming next month.

Louis CK’s ‘Only Fantasy’ Is Being One of ‘Those Dudes in Bushwick’

On the heels of his “crabby, epic love letter to NYC,” Louis CK went on The Howard Stern Show today to talk about everything from Bill Cosby and Brian Williams to his issues with “adorable” comics like Jimmy Fallon to why he quit Twitter. At some point, around the 11:30 mark of the recording above, Howard asked him about his early years in New York, and Louie confessed that the “only fantasy left” in his life is being one of those young, struggling comics whose jokes are all about life in Bushwick (which, yes, is the plot of While We’re Young). Later in the show, Howard told him it would be funny if he built a mansion in Bushwick and upped everyone’s rent (just what the neighborhood needs, right?). Here’s the transcript with the highlights in bold.

Judd Apatow and a Disconcertingly Clean-Shaven Louis CK Have Been Dropping into the Comedy Cellar

Some weeks ago we heard that funnyman-turned-filmmaker Judd Apatow had been returning to his roots and doing surprise standup sets at the Comedy Cellar. And apparently he’s for real: we spotted him outside of the venue last night, having just dropped in for a set (seems Aziz Ansari also paid a surprise visit). And according to the Twittersphere, he’s appeared there at least nine times since May.

Season 4 of ‘Louie’ Starts Filming in the East Village Tomorrow

Now that Breaking Bad is dunzo and Girls won’t be back till who knows when, you’re probably wondering whether you should just sell your couch. DO NOT. After a little break, Louie is back next spring, and here’s proof: signs up on David Schwimmer’s East Sixth Street block and around the corner on First Avenue indicate that Pig Newton is filming in the area tomorrow. Pretty sneaky of Louis CK to use the name of his production company instead of the name of the show (he clearly learned some stealth filming techniques from Woody), but no way was this going to get by us (the name of his production company, after all, is also one of his best bits).

Sigh, Amy Poehler Made Fun of Our Name (And a Whole Lot More From DCM)

The 56-hour comedy extravaganza known as the Del Close Marathon took place over the weekend. For the improv nerds amongst us, this was the chance to see some of the country’s most talented improv comedians performing at the height of their craft. For the more casual viewer, it was a chance to stalk celebrities, not to mention a whole lot of hey-you-look-familiar faces, running the gamut from Apatow-film-cameo to “that guy from The Office.” Here’s what we took away from it all.
