It was clear from the get-go that Gestations, “NYC’s First Bar for Pregnant Women,” was merely a marketing stunt. But for good measure, we asked the State Liquor Authority if anyone had applied for a liquor license at 504 East Fifth Street, as claimed on the “Public Notice” posted on the window.

After a good three years of sitting vacant, the storefront on the corner of Avenue A and East 5th Street is finally being put to use — somehow. Though the former pharmacy space had been seeking a dry tenant — with a “no restaurants” sign displayed in the window — we’re supposed to believe the landlord got desperate enough to welcome NYC’s “first bar that lets you drink for two,” per a Facebook page advertising, um, this place.
