When I meet Threats frontman Jack Ridley III at his practice space on Rivington, he is drinking a Corona and smoking a hand-rolled cig. It’s a derelict building, decorated with haphazard graffiti, located adjacent to Welcome to the Johnsons, where Jack tends bar a few nights a week.

When photographer Pete Voelker first arrived in New York, he found the city overwhelming—and immediately began to document the constant movement and shifting surfaces of the urban streets. Now, six years in, he wants others to be similarly overwhelmed during his one night-only exhibition (and first ever solo show) Might As Well Enjoy It, which collates over 600 photographs in a projection video just under 5 minutes long. When Solange Plays a Laundromat, This Guy Makes It Look Fresh
What do Florence and the Machine, St. Vincent, Smith Westerns, Drowners, and Spector have in common? Alan Del Rio Ortiz has directed videos for all of them. (Also, they are all insanely talented.)
You probably saw the clip of Solange performing at a laundromat near Barclays Center earlier this week. Yep, Del Rio Ortiz shot that one too. While the 30-year-old filmmaker specializes in music videos, his portfolio also includes live concerts, tour videos, a documentary special on Blood Orange, and several short film collaborations with Slutever’s Karley Sciortino. He’s spending his summer shooting a series of live performances (including the Solange one) as part of the Uncapped series for Vitaminwater/The Fader.
