Cheeky Sandwiches Will Open a Basement Restaurant With a ‘Dark Alley’ Vibe

At Cheeky Sandwiches on the Lower East Side, things are starting to look normal again; or, as normal as it gets at Cheeky. After closing its doors just over two weeks ago due to a bad inspection by the DOH, Cheeky reopened them—cautiously—last Monday. Din Yates tells B+B that the basement is also under renovation, and it’ll open as a new, separate restaurant within the next two months, ostensibly to fill the void of his shuttered “breakfast club,” Bread for the Eater, in Greenpoint.

Cheeky Sandwiches Has Quietly Opened Its Greenpoint Spot, and There’s a Gold Room

Since last we checked in, Bread for the Eater has quietly opened in Greenpoint. The new venture from the team behind Lower East Side spot Cheeky Sandwiches is still very much in its early stages, with construction still underway on a separate, backroom dining area. “We still have a bit of work to do with the space,” says owner Din Yates, “so the opening is very soft.”
