Jazz music emanated on a quiet stretch of Morgan Avenue last Thursday as Periodical, a pop-up lounge by local party organizer Lindsay Arden, held its premiere night. With a full band and classy cocktails, Periodical brought to life the space recently vacated by East Williamsburg restaurant Fitzcarraldo. Lindsay, who has most recently been organizing the mega-parties for JunXion at venues like House of Yes in Bushwick and the Paper Factory Hotel in Long Island City, has started her own quant hideaway with all the little elements that have made her bigger endeavors a success.

Periodical was strewn with Lindsay’s own vintage decorations and a cocktail menu chosen to match the jazz age ambiance. Among the friends from her scene who kept arriving in the wee hours were JunXion’s founder Myk Tummolo, Brent Wellington Barker III of Music Wagon Collective, and the staff of nearby Momo Sushi Shack. The seven-piece band played till 2am, taking advantage of the room’s warm acoustics. After their finale, Lindsay was invited to the floor and the singer wished her a happy birthday. She said she hoped to “create a space for vibrant expression and community,” and there’s no doubt visitors to Periodical will have a feeling of being in the know even if they don’t know anyone there yet. The pop-up will return on Friday, June 23 and Thursday June 29.
