No offense, G.I. Joe hoverfoil, but the best Christmas gift I ever got was the Gremlins tiki mug that Mondo made last year for screenings of the Xmas classic at Alamo Drafthouse. Until now, I didn’t think anything could replace this Gizmo-gone-wild in my heart or on my tiki shelf, but Christmas is coming early this year. Today at noon CST, Mondo’s website will sell the first of its new batch of mugs, inspired by the Xenomorph in James Cameron’s classic, Aliens. (Of course, the facehugging beast was first designed by the late, great creature creator HR Giger for Ridley Scott’s original.)
Maybe you thought Mondo’s next creation would be a nod to this other horror classic:

But no. Tomorrow you’ll be able to pre-order three of the five hand-glazed Xenomorph mugs that will be available this summer: the Blue, the matte-black Hive (available for 72 hours), and the Acid Blood (limited to just 200). The 16-ounce ceramic vessels range from $28 to $42, and may or may not latch onto your face and infect you with demon seed as you drink from them.
In the next couple of months, Alamo will begin exclusively selling the brown glaze. Collect them all and make sure to pour one out for Bill Paxton, aka Pvt. Hudson.
