Word on the street is the guys of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, the Australian psych rock band playing the final show on their US tour tonight at Music Hall of Williamsburg, will be serving up cocktails at Our Wicked Lady in Bushwick once they’ve shredded their last. Let’s hope they’ve got bartending experience under those guitar straps.
Actually, there are still tickets ($15) available for the show, so if you’re wondering what to do with your night, this will definitely get you through to bedtime. And it’s not a bad way to go– King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard are an entertaining throwback to the more wide-eyed days of psych. Think Piper at the Gates of Dawn — you know, pre-acid casualty stuff. While most of the psych we’re hearing today is dipping into the darker, deeper side of the psychonaut soup, these guys could write a great soundtrack to a montage of summertime beach hangs, young love, and whatever else inspires those warm and fuzzies to grow inside ya.
King Gizzard ain’t no Mac DeMarco, perhaps, but even if you don’t catch the show at the Music Hall, you’ll want to head over to what OWL co-founder Wayne Gordon says will be a “family-style rooftop after party” at the venue’s recently completed roof deck, where the dangle will continue. If you’ve been under a rock all summer, OWL opened back in June after a year-long construction project. The owners promised the place would be a “playground for musicians” that would welcome touring bands behind the bar for DJ sets and mixology stunts.
Oh, and the best part about the after party? This shit’s completely free. Scope out the scene starting at 11:30 pm.
