Nitehawk Cinema just announced that its summer outdoor screening series, in collaboration with BuzzFeed, will kick off with Billy Madison and Mallrats. That’s right: come July, you’ll be able to sit under those silvery stars and reminisce about those younger years when you were hot for teacher like manchild Billy Madison, or when you sought refuge in the mall after being dumped, like Brodie Bruce and TS Quint.
The 20th anniversary screening of Mallrats will double as an opportunity to get psyched for the sequel that Kevin Smith announced in March. (Update, 6/8: Nitehawk has now announced that Smith and star Jason Mewes will be on hand for a Q&A before Mallrats, which will screen Aug. 4. Billy Madison screens July 7.)
As in the previous two years, the free screenings — located once again at 50 Kent Avenue in Williamsburg — will be preceded by live performances and “fun surprises” that have yet to be announced. We’ll update this post once we get the specific dates for the screenings, expected later today.
