Last week we heard a rumor that Bushwick DIY space The Ho_se is on its way out. We’d be really sad to see this venue close its doors, so we’re hoping the response we received to the following query means the place is still open for biz for the foreseeable future and we’re just getting trolled.

Hey Ho_se –

I’m a contributor for Bedford + Bowery and I heard you guys might be closing up shop? That would be a serious shame, but I think it’s important for us to cover venue closings and neighborhood changes– so it would be great if someone might be willing to speak with me over the phone about what’s happening.

The response:

Hi Nicole,

Someone kept pooping on the floor of the bathroom and we couldn’t figure out who it was so we decided to quit having shows.

What a long strange trip it’s been,

Matthew Mann

When we chatted with Ho_se’s “O.G. manager” Alaina Stamatis for our post-285 Kent survey of Brooklyn’s DIY scene, she said the smallish venue adjacent the Silent Barn — which specialized in noise, performance art, rock, and folk acts as well as the occasional cheese club and speed dating event — was driven by a “happy hubris” and told us, “We’re not afraid of anything. We’ve never had any problems with having parties, so we’re not secretive at all.”
