static.squarespace.comNo need to cram into Zum Schneider’s tight quarters this Oktoberfest: the hard-partying East Village biergarten is finally doing justice to the “garden” part of “beer garden” by pitching a 700-person tent.

After hosting World Cup games at the East River and East 23rd Street, Zum will now do a traditional Oktoberfest there, complete with German servers in Dirndl and Lederhosen, kiddie carousels, strongman competitions, and stands selling roasted almonds, gingerbread hearts, cotton candy and, of course, big ol’ pretzels (should you want something less meaty than the customary roast chicken and pork shank).

The celebration, which will also include live music, runs Oct. 3-5 and then Oct. 10-12; Zum Schneider mailing list subscribers can get $15 tickets here before they go up to $25 in a few days.
