Among the film-shoot signs we spotted around the East Village today (Forever, Flesh and Bone) this one certainly stood out: the placard claims Taxi Driver 2 will be filming later this week on St. Marks Place, between Second and Third (where Girls recently camped out).
While De Niro took a proverbial stab at bringing back Travis Bickle, his efforts were ultimately for naught, so it’s hard to believe this would actually happen. What’s more, the number listed for location manager “Chad” actually belongs to a GTA Travel office. A receptionist there told us they aren’t involved in movie shoots and no one named Chad works there.
We’ve called the city’s Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting to find out whether the permit number is legit and will let you know what we hear. Even though the original Taxi Driver was filmed partly in the East Village, we doubt the franchise is heading back to the neighborhood for a four-day(!) shoot, though St. Marks Place is still your best bet for buying a Travis Bickle t-shirt.
