During the fireworks show over the East River on Friday night, someone sawed a hole on the roof of Delancey Street’s Popular Community Bank, sneaked in, and robbed the place. According to one report, approximately $290K was taken in the heist. [NY Post]

A firefighter died Saturday night after becoming trapped in the two-alarm blaze at 75 Wilson Street in Williamsburg. Lt. Gordon Ambelas, a 40-year-old father of two, is the first NYC firefighter to die on the job since April 2012. Two additional firefighters and two civilians suffered minor injuries.
