Manicure maniacs flock to the nail salon’s Driggs Avenue and Grand Street locations for hyper-specific custom designs. One woman came in to have the motif on her grandmother’s vase replicated on her fingertips. Another had Marilyn Monroe’s face painted on her thumb. Several have asked for portraits of their pets.

A classic manicure costs $13, but a one-of-a-kind illustration can jump into the triple digits. For example, a lady requesting 10 different characters from the Japanese TV cartoon Dragon Ball Z dropped over $300. Talk about an expensive hand job.

At the newest Williamsburg location, every single wall is lined with bottles of nail polish. Client services and marketing manager Jessica Torres-Mathieu said that the latest Primp & Polish stocks 1,000 unique shades. “People come in here and they’re flabbergasted,” she said. There are colors from drugstore faves like OPI and Essie as well as luxury brands like Chanel, Dior and Nars. Vegan polishes are also available. Any color can be made on the spot.

Torres-Mathieu wants each guest to react “just like when you walk into a candy store and you have an unlimited assortment.” The number of choices might give you a head rush, but the back patio is a reminder that you’re there for pampering and relaxation.
