It’s Tropical Thursday here on Bedford + Bowery — now that we’ve introduced you to “castaway rock,” how bout some “turf rock”? Swaai Boys take their inspiration from the idea of adventure, manifesting in a hybrid genre they also call “tropical pop.”
Originally the brainchild of lead vocalist Andrew McInerney, a North Brooklyn resident, the group recently released an EP, Meet the Mysterious Swaai Boys, and has opened for Wardell and The Postelles. On Saturday, they’ll headline at Pianos.
The boys hope to record a full length LP in the near future. In the meantime, we visited their rehearsal space at King Killer Studios in Gowanus to watch them run through “Camilla,” and to hear them explain what “turf rock” is, anyway.
Great video – excellent composition and editing.
This is an amazing video. Fresh band with a funky fun sound- but honestly, for me, that lion stole the show.
