The Culture Whore is celebrating its first anniversary with another one of its ragers at Secret Project Robot tomorrow, and this one is Satan themed. Which is more or less what you’d expect from the Tumblr whose logo features two skeletons “getting slutty for the arts.”

Mark Dommu, who created the music and culture site, explained the party’s theme: “Bushwick in the summer kind of becomes like hell. It’s so hot, and everyone is walking around wearing black and sinning.”

Dommu threw his first bash last year on his Bushwick rooftop to mark the end of summer, and about 100 people showed up.  The parties got bigger, stranger, and more popular as he continued to cultivate friendships with artists and performers.

The most recent one was a high-energy rave in February at the now nearly-shuttered House of Yes, in honor of the ’90s young-adult book series Animorphs. Most attendees showed up in the costume of their spirit animals, according to Dommu. The party before that, in December, was a pan-holiday free-for-all called Dick the Balls with Loads of Molly.

“All our parties have this element of fantasy,” said Dommu. “The thing that makes them great is that everybody’s into it, everybody dresses up. There’s nobody standing in the corner making fun of it.”

Tomorrow’s S A T A N I C + S M O K E O U T starts at 4 p.m. and features an afternoon BBQ in Secret Project Robot’s outdoor space in the afternoon, followed by a dozen or so performances of every genre imaginable that will last through the night. Many performers are people Dommu knows personally, such as wordplay-loving blues band The Harmonica Lewinskies (their EP is called The Oval Orifice), who went to school with him.

Dommu says he only invites acts — like Lena Marquise, famous for “fucking herself onstage with sparklers” — that shy away from the more self-indulgent trends in performance art. “We look for people who like making spontaneous, ecstatic art, but also people who know what the fuck they’re doing,” he said.

As for the party’s host? He’ll be doing some “sinister storytelling” that he hasn’t totally pinned down yet. Dress up and see it for yourself tomorrow.
