Boba Guys, the San Fransisco-born bubble tea shop, is opening its second New York location this Friday, February 24. The Greenwich Village location, on Waverly Place, looks similar to the Lower East Side one, with the same anteater logo and Spock-inspired catchphrase: “Drink well and prosper.”

The drinks are just as good, too. As we noted a little over a year ago when the Clinton Street spot opened, the tea shop eschews artificial flavors and powders for organic, house-made ingredients. You’ll find all the old favorites here: the Hong Kong-style black tea blend with condensed milk, the matcha latte, and, of course, the “classic” milk tea.

Of course, the key ingredient here is the tapioca bubbles. At other bubble tea spots, I tend to leave a lot of them in the ice water, since they tend to be sticky or hard and get in the way of the milk tea. These bubbles, however, are gooey, soft, and sweet, so you may find yourself shaking your plastic cup over your mouth like you’ve just walked through the Sahara.

The new location offers some surprises for Boba NYC die-hards. For one thing, it has partnered with its recently opened neighbor, Japanese spot Bessou, to offer bento boxes, and it’s promising “more awesome collaborations to come” with partners like Williamsburg scoop shop Oddfellows.
