The Range, Glass Gang, Sarah Kinlaw, IMAGIST, Kathleen Dycaico
Tuesday November 29, 8 pm at Elvis Guest House: $10 minimum donation

Prepare for some straightforward, vaguely uplifting dance music from the The Range aka James Hinton, a Brooklyn-based producer/ electronic musician with a penchant for sped-up, Chipmunks-style vocal samples and dreamy soundscapes. Glass Gang sounds like TV on the Radio shed any remaining remnants of rock n’ roll music and fully embraced their electronic pop music side.

Bodega Bay Member Made a 'Leather Jacket' Ode to the 60's Underground, They Read By Night

We’re only experiencing half of Joe Wakeman’s creative self when he’s belting out meta lyrics and writhing his wiry body around stage, frontman duties for his arty indie rock outfit Bodega Bay. He’s part of a network of pals in various other bands like The Yin Yangs, Heavy Birds, and Journalism. Together, they make up a bitty scene of their own within the Bushwick DIY circuit.
Joe’s managed to bring all of them together for his first feature length film, which embodies that other half of Joe Wakeman most of us have yet to see. They Read By Night is “leather jacket film” with plenty of drugs, rock n’ roll, and pulpy mayhem, all against a clever literary background. The film premieres at Gravesend Recordings next week in Bushwick. We were lucky enough to see the film in advance, but for your viewing pleasure here’s a first-look at the trailer and a bit of what we discussed about the film with Joe when we recently caught up with him at Birdy’s.

It’s been a big summer for the Yin Yangs, the Brooklyn garage-psych-punk outfit you’ve most likely seen at any number of DIY venues around town. Right before they took off on a Southern tour, the trio played Gigawatts Fest back in July alongside their up-and-coming peers, some of the best rock bands in the city right now (Heaven’s Gate, Surfbort, Vulture Shit, Future Punx, etc.). And in September they’re dropping a new tape, Taste, their first true release since unleashing their digital demos in 2013. Lucky for you we got our grubby paws on “21st Century,” and are premiering the brand new track right here, right now for your listening pleasure.
