“Girl bands.” You know the term. In fact, you’ve probably even used it a few times– I know I have. It’s easy to do, and sometimes difficult to avoid, even for people who identify as feminists. But we should really stop saying it. All of us.

It happens because the image of an “ideal” rock n’ roll band has been hammered into us from day one, starting  at the moment your crazy, mustachioed Uncle Frank threw on Exile on Main Street and started whirling his tubby hips around and around, sloshing beer onto your thin, porous baby skull for the first time (whether it dripped down your tufts of hair or just sat there on top determined how the rest of your life plays out– slumped over in a dark dive bar or squatting on an exercise-ball, bushy-tailed and bright-eyed at Generic Tech Startup X).

Prima Premieres ‘Samba,’ A Song About Finding Each Other in This F-in’ Mess

It’s been a longtime coming, but the Brooklyn-based band Prima has finally started to coalesce after a few years of what vocalist/guitarist Rose Blanshei described as “banging on things and pouring our hearts out in this concrete box in Williamsburg– just pure, visceral, catharsis nonsense.” With their first EP on the horizon– birthed from a clamorous, chaotic echo-chamber of noise rock and operatic prog influences– the band has begun releasing a series of singles, including “Samba,” premiering here at B+B.

Motorino’s Mathieu Palombino Brings Back La Gamelle, This Time On the Bowery

Following the closure of Prima last summer, Mathieu Palombino of beloved Williamsburg-East Village pizzeria Motorino is bringing classic French cuisine to the Bowery with La Gamelle. Named for the popular, long-gone restaurant in Soho, the new La Gamelle was designed with the help of the original’s owner, Alex Gherab, and offers up brasserie staples.
