Expansion Foes Warn NYU: ‘We Will Not Stop Fighting For Justice’

With NYU having prevailed in a lawsuit that contested its expansion and Cooper Union just this week settling a lawsuit brought by opponents of its new tuition scheme, you’d think things would’ve quieted at the neighboring academic institutions. But yesterday students and faculty of both, along with those of New School, marched to NYU’s doomed Greenwich Village gymnasium to make clear that they weren’t giving up the fight.

Against High Rises in the Village? Take the Elevator Up to This 21st-Floor Fundraiser

At 21 stories high, the penthouse at The Standard East Village might seem like an odd place for opponents of high-rise construction in the Village to sip cocktails.

But Mark Crispin Miller of NYU Faculty Against the Sexton Plan, which will hold a fundraiser there Tuesday, says there’s no comparison. “The four gigantic towers that NYU plans to cram into the Village will make the hotel, the Standard, look like the Flatiron,” he argues.
