Iranian exiles Icy and Sot brought together the two communities they know best by organizing two simultaneous gallery openings on Friday night, one in Brooklyn featuring 10 Iranian street artists and the other in Tehran, showcasing 35 NYC-based graffiti artists.

Last night Bushwick’s Exit Room gallery hoisted the flag for “Newmerica: The Birth of a Nation,” a tightly-focused group show (and burgeoning art collective?) of new works from Icy and Sot, NDA, Sonni, Matta Ruda, and LNY. Some of the work was so new, in fact, the LNY was still finishing his final piece even after the crowds started to arrive.

In the hours following the triple homicide and suicide in East Williamsburg on Monday morning there were conflicting reports about the victims, the shooter, and the relationship between them. This morning, the surviving members of the Yellow Dogs — Siavash ‘Obash’ Karampour and Koory Mirzeai — released an official statement with the help of their manager Ali Salehezadeh, street artists Icy And Sot, and their friend Pooya Hosseini, a member of the band, the Free Keys, that the shooter had been kicked out of.
