Just a few days old, The Glasgow Vintage Company is the latest addition to the vintage row located on East Ninth Street between First and Second Avenues. Owner Gavin O’Brien, manning the floor when we stopped by today, told us he and his wife plus three kids had just moved eight weeks prior to the West Village from Glasgow, Scotland, where they own an almost identical shop.

Was the move perhaps a means of escaping Scotland just before the country decided to maintain its often fraught marriage with the rest of the United Kingdom? Maybe O’Brien and his family thought that in the absence of total and complete Scottish independence, bringing a plethora of wooly Scottish vintage garments out of the country was the only way to preserve Scottish identity?
