These days, small-time food operations– specialty mayonnaise stores, gourmet dog treat bakeries– especially those on-the-pulse in trendy neighborhoods, seem to come and go quickly as say, nipple photos disappear from Instagram. Restaurants concepts grow tired, indie ventures can’t afford their rent, local faves raise their prices after media feeding frenzies blow up their latest dessert… the list goes on. Sometimes it can seem like there’s no hope for the lil shops selling classics anymore. But, there is hope for pizza. There is always hope for pizza.
Smorgasburg is back with their new-for-spring fare. Comfort food reigns supreme amongst the newcomers, so be prepared for everything ranging from healthy, classic Israeli dishes to duck sandwiches, duck fat potatoes, and duck leg. Expect vendors like Cemitas, Lonestar Empire, Lumpia Shack, Milk Truck, Pizza Moto, Ramen Burger, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Schnitz, Brooklyn Oyster Party, The Good Batch, Kelvin Slush Co., and People’s Pops.
Outdoor noshing season is officially in full swing, what with the opening of Riis Park Beach Bazaar and now two of Smorgasburg’s satellite smorgs. The Williamsburg and Fort Greene institution’s Seaport location opened today, and a Coney Island outpost opens Saturday.
