The Long Island City fine art scene is about to get a dose of DIY cred with Holding Space, a new three-part music series curated by Sam Hillmer (aka Diamond Terrifier) launching tomorrow at SculptureCenter. As the guy behind the scenes at Trans-Pecos (and co-founder along with Todd P), Hillmer will present his usual fare– a motley brew of various sounds stemming from eclectic tastes and experimental practices.
It’s been 10 years since the inaugural Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, and this time around the crew at Brooklyn Bodega—the hip-hop advocates that produce the festival—promise it’ll be the freshest yet (their words, not ours).

New York musicians Vic and The People, City Of The Sun, and Clay Charles perform at La Plaza Cultural garden in Alphabet City. The event kicks off at 2 p.m. with a Brazilian BBQ, followed by DJ Boy Beagle, and then live performances. Entry is free, but all donations go to help maintain the garden.
