In April, Nino Camaj told The Local he was planning to bring back his eponymous pizzeria to the corner of St. Marks Place and Avenue A, seven years after selling the original and moving to Florida. Soho House made the case for a liquor license at their impending Lower East Side location, Ludlow House, at the State Liquor Authority in Harlem today, with the LES Dwellers and several Ludlow Street residents in attendance to oppose it. Ludlow House’s legal representation, Donald Bernstein, attempted to prove that Soho House’s cultural programs, responsible leadership, relatively low-key nightlife, and classy members who “won’t be puking on stoops” will be a public benefit to the neighborhood. After a series of delays and under-the-radar soft openings (um hello, where was B+B’s invite?), Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken is finally hatching today, which is a relief because we are running out of chicken puns.
Earlier today, an employee told us the restaurant would be hosting a free tasting around noon, and then closing and re-opening for another free tasting around 6 p.m. Word has gotten out: as we post this, there are 25 people in a line that stretches out the door. When Ramen Burger sold out of 150 fried-noodle burgers at Smorgasburg last week, it was uncertain if they’d return, or if it would be the sort of once-in-a-lifetime debacle, like the Stones at Altamont, that we’d be telling our incredulous kids about years from now. But Keizo Shimamoto just made it official: they’ll be back Saturday and they’ll be doling out twice as many burgers — which means the line will be ten times as long.
