Rosie’s Mexican (No Relation to Rosa Mexicano) Coming in December

Man are the husband-and-wife team behind Chelsea’s Cookshop keeping busy. Last week Vicki Freeman and Marc Meyer debuted Vic’s in the space that previously held their Noho brunch spot Five Points. And now, with this sign, they’ve announced to the denizens of Second Avenue that they’re getting ready to open Rosie’s in the former home of Boukies.

First Look at The Black Ant, Now Serving Insect-Dusted Margs and Guac

The Black Ant, opening tonight in the East Village, doesn’t look much like any other Mexican restaurant in town, and that’s the way the owner likes it. “Our inspiration is Salvador Dali and Buñuel,” explains Jorge Guzman, who is Dominican but has spent time in Mexico. “All Mexican restaurants go with the same old ideas — it’s what they know. But we wanted something different. And you know, Mexico is so surreal.”

San Fran Transplant Opens Taqueria Diana, Now Serving Monster Burritos

Matt La Rue, the proprietor of the newly opened Taqueria Diana, had always dreamed of opening a taqueria in New York. The Stockton, California native spent a decade cooking in “more upscale” Bay Area Mexican restaurants, and came to love San Francisco-style burritos and quesadillas when he moved to the Mission District a few years ago.
