The long in-the-works Orchard Street Hotel is slated to open next week, according to general manager Angela Fiore. The hotel, at 163 Orchard Street between Rivington and Stanton Streets, is already taking reservations on Booking.com, where a deluxe queen room is going for $129 a night, a 75-percent discount off the original $499.99. The site says there’s an on-site bar, mentions that “certain rooms offer a view of the city,” and touts its proximity to the Lower East Side’s nightlife.
Two of the Lower East Side’s most controversial projects just entered new phases of construction. First up, the Ludlow Street outpost of Soho House, which faced considerable opposition from neighbors when it applied for a liquor license last year, has raised its sidewalk shed, obscuring the facade that had become a magnet for taggers and street artists while the building’s renovation seemed to sit in limbo.
The Lower East Side isn’t the best neighborhood for drinking on high: even “rooftop” spots like The Delancey, The DL, Hotel Chantelle and Above Allen only rise a couple stories above the ground. But that could change next summer.
