It’s not every show that Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens, Hall and Oates and freaking Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are merely the warm-up acts, but then last night’s concert at Barclays Center wasn’t just any show: Nirvana was also being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and surviving members performed the band’s songs for the first time since the death of Kurt Cobain 20 years ago this month.

Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon Are Playing The Stone (Not Together, Sorry)
The saga of Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon has been back in the news lately (and by “the news,” we mean Pitchfork and Brooklyn Vegan). Thurston says he’s now in a “really romantic place” but next month, he’ll step into a not-all-that-romantic place: John Zorn’s East Village hole-in-the-wall, The Stone. As it turns out, Kim’ll be there too — about a month later.

Kool Thing: Kim Gordon Is Crashing in Greenpoint These Days

(Photo: Patrick McMullan)
North Brooklyn has seen a lot of Kim Gordon in the past month: she introduced a screening of “A Woman Under the Influence” at Nighthawk and performed with Body/Head, her project with noise guitarist Bill Nace, at Saint Vitus during Northside. Plus, that show at Knockdown Center in May.
No, she hasn’t been commuting in from her home in Western Massachusetts. Turns out, the former(?) Sonic Youth bassist/singer/guitarist/

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Is Teaching the Ramones All Wrong
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is notorious for getting it wrong, sparking yearly lists of snubees. (For starters, Sonic Youth and the Pixies have yet to be honored, though Kim Gordon’s and Kim Deal’s basses are currently displayed in the museum’s Guitar Gallery.) Of course, you can’t always get what you want– unless you’re the Rolling Stones, in which case you get a ton of display space. But you’d think the Rock Hall would at least get their shit straight with bands that have been inducted. Not so with the Ramones.
Richard Prince Raised $150K For the Resistance, With This Composite of Trump’s Accusers
On the brink of Donald Trump’s inauguration last year, Richard Prince caused a stir when he disavowed the portrait he had made for Ivanka Trump, one of his (in)famous Instagram-on-canvas works. At the time, it was uncertain if Prince’s disavowal really meant anything, since Ivanka reportedly declined to take back the $36,000 she had paid him and it’s possible the notoriously meta artist’s publicity-grabbing antics only raised the piece’s value. Now, however, Prince is putting his money where his mouth is; last night he raised $150,000 for an anti-Trump PAC by selling versions of his latest work, “18 & Stormy,” a composite of photos of Stormy Daniels and 18 women who have accused Donald Trump of sexual misconduct.
Stephen Malkmus Gets ‘Shiggy’ With New Album and Single
Last month when Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks trotted out a new single and tour dates, you had to wonder whether they had a new album in store. The answer– happily– is yes. It’s called Sparkle Hard, and it’ll be out May 18 on Matador Records. The second song off the album, “Shiggy,” is just the fuzzy, crunchy head-bopper you need to get you over the Monday malaise.
