Remember HBO’s ’80s program opener, where an asteroid exploded over “HBO City” and turned into the network’s logo? (If so, or even if not, check out this behind the scenes look; it turns out there were hookers on the corner). Well, that’s basically what Williamsburg will look like today, when both Girls and Boardwalk Empire film there. (Minus the hookers on the corner — unless that whole Iowa thing didn’t work out for Hannah.)

You could define the Twee Tribe as the “hipster elite” that’s ruining America. But Twee: The Gentle Revolution in Music, Books, Television, Fashion and Film describes the Twee Party in more flattering terms: its multigenerational members exalt beauty over ugliness, childhood and innocence over adulthood, nerd chic over conventional “cool,” and intellectual curiosity over bullying. Think coffee mugs etched with owls, probiotic hot sauce, and mason-jar tops with built-in straws, to name some of the Brooklyn Flea items Spitz singles out.

You’ve Either Seen Tinuade Oyelowo On Girls, or Dancing at Bembe

Tinuade Oyelowo spends her days slinging soy lattes at Café Grumpy in Greenpoint and her late Saturday nights sweating on the dance floor at Bembe in Williamsburg. At Grumpy, she does double duty: after four months there, she was tapped to play a barista on HBO’s Girls. The 29-year-old Bed-Stuy resident appeared in two episodes last season and will appear in two more next season – “a very surreal New York experience.”
