If you were even a slightly sentient being in the ’90s, it’s pretty much guaranteed that you can sing along with most or maybe even all of Fiona Apple’s “Criminal”– it’s the kind of song that sticks with you forever, with its piano bang-bangs, a sing-along ready chorus that swings from shrill highs to lowest lows. The song even shares its opening line (“I’ve been a bad, bad girl”) with an old prison blues song. We’re a long way from 1996, when “Criminal,” Apple’s hit single and award-winning music video dropped (20 years ago, almost to the date), but it still vibrates with the same fiery angst, tight-fisted rebellion and, yes, youthful sexual energy the day that it premiered.

Another tattoo shop. In Bushwick. Next to an esoteric record shop. OK… you might be thinking. But your attention please, because the mind of Marina Heintze, bled out of her ears and solidified in tattoo parlor form, is anything but the embodiment of that triangle tattoo you’ve seen on everyone and her sister since Miley Cyrus revealed that anyone, so long as they’ve got a sewing needle, some India ink, and a bottle of vodka, can permanently press ink into skin.
“I’ve seen it all,” says Sally Sutton. “Every type of venue, from topless, to nude, to burlesque, to bikini, pole, every level of every club in six different states.” Over the course of two decades, her career took her “from a girl to a woman,” and now she wants to do the same for her clients at the Brooklyn Pole Dance Studio.
We didn’t spot Lena Dunham when Girls filmed at Café Mogador in Williamsburg this morning — though, as you can (barely) see above, we did spot Zosia Mamet wearing a cute blue-and-white printed dress and Ugg boots, her hair newly shorn into a bob.
Is it possible that when Adam said “I fucking murdered it, I cut its fucking guts out and left it in a dumpster by the side of the road,” he wasn’t just talking about his audition?
Girls star Allison Williams did not come in character to her Q&A last night at Soho’s Apple Store. While we regretted the missed opportunity for a Marnie TED Talk, Williams was lovely — in a blousy, pink patterned dress, with black tights and heels — and her conversation with Harper’s BAZAAR executive editor Laura Brown was as silly as we could have hoped for. These were Williams’s best quips.
Is Marnie Michaels embracing her unsolicited Internet fame? Tonight at 6 p.m. Girls star Allison Williams will be at Soho’s Apple Store to promote season three. On everyone’s mind: Marnie’s music video, which debuted in Sunday’s episode. If we know Marnie Marie Michaels, she’ll be giving some sort of small-scale TED Talk. A title has not been announced, but we took a few guesses.
