Here’s Your Chance to Give Bernie Sanders an Awkward Hug

Screen Shot 2016-11-11 at 12.10.55 PMHave you heard the one about the mom who decided to shake off her post-election blues by taking a walk through the woods in Chappaqua, only to bump into Bill and Hillary Clinton, walking their dog? The resulting photo has swept the internet, and offered some degree of solace to Clinton supporters. Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders die-hards are probably thinking, “Boy, I wouldn’t mind running into Bernie somewhere. I bet that guy could use a hug, too.” Don’t worry, Berners– you needn’t go trekking through the woods of Vermont to make it happen. (“Oh, hi, Bernie! I was just here for some maple syrup.”) This Monday, the candidate will be at the Barnes & Noble at 555 Fifth Avenue, in Midtown, posing with fans who’ve bought a copy of his new book, Our Revolution: A Future to Believe In.

#MuppetBernie the Uncontested Winner of Washington Square Park Rally

(Photo: Daniel Maurer)

Forget the modest muppet at the Bernie-themed art show coming to the Bowery this weekend, this muppet really took Manhattan. It remains to be seen whether Bernie Sanders will win the Democratic nomination, but this guy was definitely a winner at the underdog candidate’s Washington Square Park rally. As Muppet Bernie walked down Broadway after the event let out, he was stopped for selfies by dozens and dozens of the estimated 27,000-plus people who flooded the Village to hear from Vampire Weekend, Rosario Dawson, Tim Robbins, Spike Lee, and bird-whisperin’ Bern himself.

What’s the One Question Bernie Ralliers Would Ask Hillary at the Debate?

As a YUGE crowd gathered for a Bernie Sanders rally in Washington Square Park this afternoon, we asked his supporters (some of which had been there since 1:30 a.m.) what they’d ask Hillary Clinton at Thursday’s Brooklyn debate. Click through to read their responses.

During a taping of Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore earlier today, Bernie Sanders was asked, “Are you Jesus?” – after all, Wilmore pointed out, he has dabbled in carpentry, he’s Jewish, he’s been invited to the Vatican, and “millions of people come to hear you speak your sermons on mounts.” (Or, thousands come to Washington Square Park, at least.) The answer was no. Bernie had already proven as much during an earlier segment, in which he refused to turn the other cheek against Republicans and capped off a speech about “New York values” with a Brooklyn-style mic drop.

Didn’t wake up at 1 a.m. to get a spot in line to see Vampire Weekend serenade Bernie Sanders at Washington Square Park this afternoon? There’s still plenty of Bernie love to go around the city ahead of the primary next Tuesday.

Meet This Muppet at a Bernie-Themed Art Show Featuring Shepard Fairey and More

LA_DonnyMiller

Bernie Sanders has been compared to a muppet time and time again, but as far as we know, only one artist has lovingly turned him into one. (That said, we have seen a Bernie puppet before). Donny Miller’s handiwork, above, will be on display on the Bowery this weekend, as part of a pro-Bernie art exhibit, “The Art of a Political Revolution.”

While a pro-Hillary pantsuit competition brews in Bushwick, NYU is warning its students that “thousands of people” are expected to attend a Bernie Sanders rally in Washington Square park at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. A campus-wide email from the school’s Vice President for Health advises that some streets in Greenwich Village will be closed off and the area will be crowded, but if you’re an NYU student wondering whether this means you get to miss class (or your shift at Bedford + Bowery) — sorry, no.

Not Even a Blustery Day Could Chill the Bern at Transmitter Park

(Photo: Nicole Disser)

Bernie Sanders supporters showed up in droves today at the candidate’s Brooklyn rally, undeterred by the nippy cold weather and wind gusts that sent even the NYPD tugboat off of Greenpoint’s Transmitter Park a’bobbin (perfectly in-synch with the pump-up soundtrack’s reggae rotation, I might add). The mood was elated as the Brooklynite presidential candidate prepares to battle it out with Hillary Clinton for New York state delegates, a fight set to go down on her (sort-of) home turf less than two weeks from today.

Kyp Malone, Susan Sarandon and Other Sandernistas Turned Up For ‘Bern NY Bern’

Flash Factory recently made a New York Times list of Manhattan clubs that are keeping it real, but it probably wasn’t the best place for a populist Bernie Sanders rally – anyone who left a $2 tip on a lousy can of Bud ($9) and a Jack and Coke ($17) would’ve immediately blown the $27 they might have otherwise contributed to the Sanders campaign. But hey, everyone who showed up for last night’s “Bern NY Bern” party got free entertainment from bands like Rain Machine and Wild Belle, plus some Instagrammable speeches from Gaby Hoffman and Susan Sarandon.
